JAKARTA FASHION FUN
Exploring Jakarta and Surrounds
Jakarta, Indonesia’s vibrant capital, pulses with creative energy. Located on the northwest coast of Java, this sprawling metropolis is a cultural mosaic — where centuries-old tradition meets modern ambition. From bustling textile markets to sleek fashion houses, Jakarta is a city that doesn’t just wear style — it lives it.
As one of Southeast Asia’s fastest-growing creative capitals, Jakarta offers more than high-rises and shopping malls. It’s home to artisans who still handcraft intricate batik patterns, designers reimagining heritage in contemporary form, and communities keeping ancient textile knowledge alive. The city is a runway of contrasts — where history, innovation, and artistry walk side by side.
Beyond its sartorial flair, Jakarta’s historic roots run deep. Once known as Sunda Kelapa and later Batavia during Dutch colonial rule, the city’s story is etched into landmarks like Kota Tua, the National Monument (Monas), and the renowned Textile Museum. These heritage sites aren’t just monuments — they’re mirrors to Indonesia’s past and present identity.
The economic heartbeat of Indonesia also makes Jakarta a powerful launchpad for the country’s fashion and textile industry. From Kemang’s curated boutiques to Tanah Abang’s sprawling fabric markets, the city fuels both the creative process and the commercial engine behind Indonesian design.
Jakarta Fashion Fun invites you to explore all of this — not just as a tourist, but as a creator, observer, and participant. With immersive experiences in fashion shows, textile workshops, curated shopping, and styled photo shoots, the program offers a front-row seat to Jakarta’s evolving style narrative.
This is more than a destination. It’s a journey through heritage, design, and imagination — all woven into the heart of Jakarta.

History in Every Stitch
Walk through the past. Understand the present.
Before it was Jakarta, it was Sunda Kelapa — a vital port in the 4th century. It later became Batavia, the center of Dutch colonial power in the East. Today, the echoes of that rich history live on in its architecture, textiles, and cultural spirit.
Wander through Kota Tua (Old Town), where time stands still beneath whitewashed colonial buildings. Visit the Textile Museum, where intricate fabrics tell tales of archipelagic dynasties and ancient maritime trade. Stroll through Glodok, Jakarta’s old Chinatown, where cultures collided and blended for centuries — shaping both fashion and identity.
Fashion here isn’t just about what you wear. It’s about where you come from.
